Day
6: Word of the day-Rafiki=Friend! For the better part of the day we
were at Lake Nakuru national park. We went with two other Canadian
friends. Bumpy roads is a complete understatement, buuut, it's all part
of the fun! At first we saw a lot of water buffaloes, who look like they
have a movember moustache on their head, awesome. We saw a lot of
gazelles, graceful and peaceful to say the least. The
baboons were awesome! My fave was seeing the babies hanging under the
mom, or riding on her back. Picking nits off each others' backs was also
among the highlights. Further along we saw striped black and white
horses , a lot of wart hogs, and my favourite-the giraffes. The way the eat and walk is so delicate.
We retuned home to Nyota and met with Ezekial, our chef and our new
Rafiki. We helped to prepare dinner. Veggies, meat, and ugali (maize
flour and water). Better than lending a hand, was having a conversation
with him and laughing most of the time. When he joked with us he says
he's 'twisting us.' When we asked him if he's seen any good movies
lately he told us that 'according to his schedule he cannot prepare
time, but he loves Rambo.' Too cute!
Before dinner we taught the
kids some dance moves, to which by no surprise were they amazing and
totally coordinated! Because everyone is accepted for who they are and
not what they have or look like, I find the kids are always 100%
themselves; not caring about how they may look when dancing, singing or
even answering questions in class. One big happy family pretty much sums
up Nyota Home/MIA.
Tomorrow church (in house) begins at 9 am. They've been practising a worship song to preform tomorrow...can't wait!
