Africa: Day 3

Day 3: Asanti=Thank you. A word we used to the farmer who let us milk his cow today At Nyota Home there are several dairy cows, chickens, and a variety of crops like wheat and spinach. A lot of the food/milk is used for the children, and extra is sold to community members. We also worked with grade 2 students as they prepare for their finals next week. The teacher is lovely, and mostly the same curriculum us taught here as at home. Children go to school from 8:30-4:00 or 5:00 and are a hard working bunch. After someone answers a question correctly on the board, they sing a song to congratulate them. And if they themselves get an answer correct, then they pat their chest instead of their back. This evening Ezekial, one of the wonderful chefs, and his partner chef, prepared chicken and French fries, and we celebrated some birthdays with cake! I especially enjoyed free time today as I was able to teach a few kids how to juggle scarves. The younger ones enjoyed playing skirts, head scarves, and ribbons out of them, lol. Our day ended with read-alouds, camp songs, and prayer. Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!
