Word
of the day: Jambo (hi in Swahili) Day 1 in Kenya: finally arrive after
24 hours of travel and transit (with zebras and monkeys along roadside),
and we were greeted by Ivan, the lovely Aussie who started this
orphanage 10 years ago (kids call him Daddy, in their now Aussie-English
accent). We have a kick ass hut to ourselves, working plumbing, wifi,
fridge etc. The kids instantly approached us,
all 40, and shook our hands one at a time like we were celebs. Next it
was dinner-spaghetti-then each kid took on a task; sweeping, stacking
chairs, dishes. Finally we all met in another building, the kids sang
worship songs as we prepared ice cream comes for them. Time for a well
deserved sleep, but feeling safe with our compound gates, guards, and
German Shepard watch dogs!
