Day
10: Shamba=Garden. This morning we helped Ezekiel pull some kale from
the shamba. Man that guy makes us laugh, he's always so jovial and
upbeat. I traced Ronny's foot and hand on a paper and let him draw on it
just so I could keep it. The other kids crowded around all asking if I
was buying him shoes. I didn't understand why until finally I asked the
4th kid to wonder. He explained that the caregivers
trace their feet to know their size if they're buying them shoes. Makes
sense. Today was a national holiday (Eid) so the kids didn't have
school. Free time included games, listening to music, exercising, and
cups (Pitch Perfect song). Later Amanda and I made letters/pics of us
for our sponsor kids and put them up in their rooms, and I gave Ronny a
little leopard to sleep with at night. He grabbed it tightly. Mom had a
fun idea, on FaceTime this morning she treated Ronny like one of the
grandkids and since he can't go for a 4wheeler or backhoe ride, she got
dad to ride them around so he could watch. So cute! An afternoon walk in
the countryside with the kids was a perfect way to end a sunny
afternoon holiday. I got a little sunburn on my neck, but don't worry-3
people says sorry to me. Lol-so nice. We also welcomed Ken, the
president of Speroway (the Canadian sponsor organzation for Nyota). I
think he had a great first impression as Ezekiel made a special Muzungu
(white person) meal (aka spaghetti and salad), and the kids did an
amazing job collectively singing and dancing at worship. After this my
little buddy, Paul said, 'I am fearing for your leaving.' Awww-me too
little buddy. I spent some time with the grade (aka level) 4s to prepare
for their exams tomorrow. It was pretty fun, actually-even the ink that
splattered out all over my hands lol.
