Beijing, China

...I've Gotta Feeling....That Chuseok's gonna be a good time...

Our Theme Song. I've Gotta Feeling by Black Eyed Peas. Because every good adventure deserves a good theme song.

Jane and I hit the ground running at 4:20 am on Friday morning of our Korean Thanksgiving Long weekend (Chuseok).
I begin the blog with this cute picture of me and a random Chinese Family who asked for a photo because it's hilarious...That 'yellow' hair made me feel like a partial celebrity. Pictures with strangers all weekend. Thank YOU hair dye haha...
The baby had never seen yellow hair either...because she couldnt keep her hands off me. HAHA. Not to mention in China the baby's sleepers have holes in the bottom for "convience sake" and I had her wee bum on my arm. ha ha ha. Oh, when in Rome.
NI HAO (hello) CHINA!

Here's our hotel...All Dressed up in Red Lanterns...

First Stop?
Olympic Stadium! Here's the Water Cube (swimming pool).

The Olympic Cartoon Characters look a lot happier than they were. 10 seconds prior they had their heads up and sweating to death. Thanks for puttin on a happy face guys.
Beijing Summer Olympics 2008 and the Bird's Nest (running competitions).Apparently a few days earlier they had shot off this thing in the atmosphere to make the smog go away. They did this for their 60th Anniversary of the Country and thus, we had a BEAUTIFUL 4 days (pollultion free)!

Inside the Water Cube (swimming pool). We felt like celebrities, we even got to sit on the chairs like the audience!:)
Inside the Bird's Nest...

In the Acrobatic's show! They did some pretty wild and tricky stuff. I swear, they have no bones, just muscles that swoosh around. HOW do they bend like that??

Plate-a-spinning

The FORBIDDEN CITY!! So goregous! We heard lots of stories about the Dragon Lady (who reigned for 49 years and was selfish and glutenous).
The place of Emperors and rooms meant for only eating, washing, entertainment etc. So extravagent and SO long ago!

Cutest Waiter ever! He was always smilin, lingerin, runnin to get water. We wanted to scoop him up and take him home in all of our knock-off purses we purchased!! haha
Temple of Heaven!!! If this is Heaven, we'll all be a-okay :)
Pearls inside the Oyster. So many eh?

Summer Palace for the Emperor. So NICE!
Miltary Parade. October 1st, China's Anniversary for Mao's declaration of the People's Republic of China.

In Tiananmen Square. You can see Mao's portrait in the centre. Leader of communism.
One of the parade floats for the 60th Anniversary! Also, it was the full moon celebration, check out the full moon in the back!

Out for dinner with some friends from Korea! We had some Peking Duck, famous to Beijing.
Out for a birthday drink in a gorgeous hotel bar! Hello Martinis!
Coolest way to spend my 26th! HapPy BiRthDay tO mE!!
Ming's Tombs (old emperor) A REAL Chinese buffet. So Good. An you know, those chicken balls with the red sauce? That's a Canadian Hoax!

The Absolutely, Fantastic and Breathtaking Great Wall of China.

I stopped a few times and said to myself. I am SO LUCKY to be here.
I felt so awestruck and privledged to experience this.
I'll keep it at three letters.

WOW.

Hello Great Wall. You're better than Great.
But, not so much for those who built it. There were 30,000 lost lives building the great wall.
It was built between the 5th and 16th century BC. It stretched about 8,851.8 km across the entire country to keep the Mongolians out. Now only 10% of it is accessible to the public and we went to the Betaling section, the highest section!
There were steep parts, flat parts, short stairs, large stairs. The climb was filled with excitment, blood, sweat and tears :)
So picturesque.
Again, a random shot with some school kids on the wall! Why not? :)
Chinese Buddhists burning inscents for Buddha in the Lama Temple.

1990's World Record for largest standing Buddha statue.

Carved from one Sandlewood tree. 18 M above ground and 8 below.
OVERALL, A REMARKABLE EXPERENCE. BEIJING IS FULL OF ANCIENT HISTORY, BEAUTIFUL TEMPLES, DEVOTE BUDDHIST, TALL SKYSCRAPERS, GOOD FOOD, LOTS OF PEOPLE, AND LOTS OF NOISE, HISTORICAL MONUMENTS, NEW LANDMARKS, OLD LANMARKS, FRIENDLY PEOPLE AND ONE HELL OF A GREAT WALL.
